It's great if you have expertise in specific subject matter, but what really counts is simply sharing relevant and appropriate personal high school, college, or  career  experiences to help students feel understood, supported, and well guided.

No worries. It's OK to admit that you don't know something. You can always message a student later with any answer they need. Or refer them to the Upptik knowledge base or community sharing.

Definitely. Before your first scheduled Mentoring session, we make sure that you have talked to other Mentors and feel confident, relaxed, and up to the task. Being an Upptik Mentor really is the art of being properly informed and just being yourself so that a high school student can feel supported by you. They should feel more confident after listening to your experiences and workable ideas, and receiving direction on how to use platform tools to improve career exploration, skills, and decision making, while building a powerful Upptik Multimedia Resumé.

Most traditional resumés and LinkedIn style profiles are typically written, limited, two-dimensional records of your credentials, experience, and achievements.

An Upptik Multimediá Resume contains comprehensive sections that cover all aspects of your personal, educational, and work experience.

In addition to writing up key information, you can also include vibrant video shorts that showcase every aspect of your life from work to study to hobbies and community service. And include video recommendations from your supporters.

This Multimedia Resumé is shareable with anyone outside the platform and puts you head and shoulders above the competition by showing the whole you whenever you apply for school or work. It's a game changer when it comes to helping you win opportunities of all kinds.

Once you are approved as an Upptik Mentor, you have access to a personal calendar and scheduling application in your Upptik dashboard. Here is where you can set your schedule, selecting the dates and times you are available to mentor, as well as the method you prefer: real-time chat, Zoom call or Zoom video chat.

Upptik makes it easy to set your schedule, accept bookings, implement, and keep track of mentoring sessions. You are notified and asked to confirm whenever a student requests an available slot. It's easy to see all your upcoming sessions at a glance on the My Upptik section of your dashboard, where you can also join or cancel sessions.

If you are a Mentor working for intern hours/credits you are expected to spend 3-5 hours per week creating mentoring content and holding one-to-one Mentor Sessions on the platform to earn intern hours/credits.

All other Mentors are encouraged to post as much as their schedules will allow.

While Upptik cannot guarantee most Mentors set work hours, we do our best to ensure a proper ratio of Mentors to Students to give all Mentors the opportunity to work.

Mentors in the intern program will work in exchange for intern hours/credits. Come December, paid positions will open for one-to-one Mentors between $16 and $20 per hour, depending on state laws. 

Every Upptik Mentor is sent instructions on how to to set up an account on Bill.com, an easy to use third-party payment platform. Here, as a 1099 contract employee, you will complete a W9 form. 

Upptik tracks all of your mentoring time and pays you every two weeks directly into your bank account.  You will receive an email confirmation that payment has been made from your Bill.com account, where all of your payment information is securely collected and stored for your personal record keeping per IRS requirements. 

1099 subcontractors are independent contractors not employees. They are paid based on a project or hourly basis. The employer does not withhold taxes. Instead, the subcontractor is responsible for paying the IRS directly. 

Contractors complete a W-9 form at the start of their Upptik employment. If they earn over $600, they receive a 1099-NEC form at year’s end showing how much they have been paid. This form is also sent to the IRS to report any taxable income.

A W-9, required by the IRS for reporting taxes, is a simple form completed by subcontractors to provide employers like Upptik with essential information such as name, address, and taxpayer identification number (TIN), which for individuals is their Social Security Number (SSN). 

This enables Upptik to issue a Form 1099-NEC if the subcontractor earns $600 or more in a tax year, reporting the income to the IRS. Upptik securely stores these W-9 forms along with all payment and tax records for its mentors.
