The Near-Peer Community Mentor Intern serves as a structured mentorship leader inside the Upptik Gives online community.
Mentors guide high school students through building their Résumix multimedia resume using a weekly Student Development Series aligned to specific sections. The goal is measurable student progress, increased confidence, and stronger articulation of real-life experiences.
This role combines digital instruction, youth development, and community leadership.
Within the first two weeks, mentors publish at least six short introductory videos to establish a visible, professional presence.
These videos help students understand your background, build trust, and decide whether to engage with your content or book a session.
Each week, mentors are assigned a specific Résumix section and create a four-part Student Development Series that includes:
Explain one clear lesson about the section and why it matters.
Address something students may misunderstand.
Use personal experience or an example to show the lesson in practice.
Give students one manageable way to apply what they learned.
Teach It must be delivered in video format. Other posts may use approved formats.
Mentors must submit a brief SDS Development Plan in advance outlining the overall lesson, post topics, approaches, and formats. Plans are reviewed prior to implementation.
Students may book one-to-one mentoring sessions depending on school partnerships. When scheduled, sessions are professional commitments requiring preparation, punctuality, and reliability.
This unpaid internship complies with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and Connecticut state labor laws. Interns receive educational credit and hands-on experience in digital mentorship.
